Chair

Mutale Merrill OBE





Mutale's background is in Gender, Domestic Violence, Housing and International development. She has a post graduate degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Cardiff Business School and sits on various National and International bodies.

In addition to being the Chair of MEWN Cymru, Mutale Nyoni is also Chief Executive of BAWSO, which is an all Wales voluntary organisation, providing specialist services to Black and Minority Ethnic Women and Children fleeing Domestic Abuse. She is also the Chair for the Care Council for Wales.

The focus of her work is Social Care, Housing, Gender, Domestic Violence and a campaigner on “make Poverty History”. Her current and past engagements include: being on the first commission to review the National Assembly for Wales’ Voluntary Sector Scheme for Wales; member of the National Assembly’s Homelessness Commission; member of the National Assembly’s Working Group on Domestic Violence and Violence against Women; Chair of BME Housing Strategy Review Group sponsored by the National Assembly; Treasurer for Taff Housing Association. Board member of Cynnal Cymru (the Sustainable Development Forum for Wales) and Abesu.She holds a postgraduate degree in Business Administration (MBA) from University of Wales and in 1993 was awarded Welsh Woman of the Year, HTV Award and the 2006 Welsh Woman of the Year, Val Feld Award .She is also a recipient of a Leading Wales Award 2006.
