Amna Dirar is a qualified pharmacist and worked in a community pharmacy in Sudan. After migrating and joining her husband in this country, she put her career on hold to concentrate on raising a family and supporting her husband.

Amna is an active member of the Sudanese Community in South Wales, and was involved in the successful establishment of a Sudanese Sunday School. As well as being the chairperson of the school, she also teaches GCSE Arabic.

Amna joined the organisation in 2006 as a volunteer on the Health project. In October 2006 she was appointed as the part time Health Project Worker. The project targets service users and health service providers in Cardiff and Newport. Her role included providing training sessions to community groups, BME organisations and mainstream organisations on various topics including mental health, substance misuse, diabetes, diet and nutrition, coronary heart disease, breast cancer, cervical cancer screening and factors affecting access to mainstream service providers.
Amna has now been appointed as Project Worker on the Changing Lifestyles project. The Changing Lifestyles project aims to increase activity levels amongst the element of the Black and Ethnic Minority (BME) population of Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan who take no exercise. The target group will be BME women and Men. The project will develop and support programmes that increase opportunities for individuals and groups to access health enhancing physical activity in the outdoor environment.
